Afsaneh Javanmard creates unforgettable photographs by combining her bold creative vision with extracting technical skill. One of the first women to pursue a career in commercial photography in Iran, Javanmard began taking photos professionally in Tehran in her early 20s. As a teenager, she carried her camera everywhere, winning praise for her photographs of friends and family. After studying photography at a private university in Tehran, she started making family portraits and photographing Persian weddings professionally.
She likes to create a surreal world and drown herself in it. A peaceful and colorful place to avoid the reality and cruelty of the world. “Water is a symbol of purity, I feel weightless and free, shapeless, unpredictable, wild, and at the same time collected. When I put my head under the water, I feel this energy that’s like a musical symphony, its cheerful and liberating.”
