Soul Sessions, at Raw Remedies in the heart of the Arts District in Downtown Las Vegas Nevada, inspired three poets and spoken word artists to pen Mend A City: The Movement, the inspirational performance art piece by Tabia Mawusi, Xulee, and Philip J Lightfoot. In remembrance of our history and in homage to our ancestors we come together in this space for the Juneteenth Celebration 2022.
“This is what happens when an undignified culture gets introduced to the barrel of a 12 gauge situation.” Mend-A-City The Movement with its use of “rhythm and prose” boldly catapults its audience into an eclectic world of conscious spoken word and revolutionary thought. Speaking truth to power, it addresses many issues prevalent to all, and yet, ignored by many, blacks to whites, and “gets in your face.”SynopsisThe play, or rather this “performance art piece” was penned with purpose. To actively awaken the masses and eradicate the mendacity that plagues our nation and stagnates our human rights through White Supremacy and its doctrine of Racism.
GOALS
While the mission of the Mend A City Movement is focused on mending a select group of people, the adverse impact racism has on these people is systemic and calls for peoples of all nations, races, colors, and creeds who have been interwoven into the fabric of the American culture to open their minds and hearts to be educated about the history and experiences of African-American/Black people in this country.
Entertain and educate the greater Las Vegas Community on the African-American/Black experience and engage in “Healing Dialogue” about the piece and its impact on the audience. Racism is a national crisis that impacts every aspect of our lives from academics to business & commerce, health and wellness, nutrition, housing, criminal justice, and more. Mend A City: The Movement is a catalyst for change to spark peaceful, heartfelt, communication and bridge the divide among the races, which when combined make up all of humanity.
Encourage and motivate attendees to leave changed and inspired to take action in their perspective lives and communities to use their influence, expertise, passion, and skillsets to Mend A City. The city we are called to mend is the ethnicity most often referred to as African-American or Black.
