Kain Tayo: A Free Filipino Food Creative Writing Class

April 5 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Free
Purple Colorful Illustrative Filipino Food Festival Event Flyer

April is Filipino Food Month, and we know the Filipino diaspora is more than just ube lattes and Jollibee! Kain Tayo (which means “Let’s Eat” in Tagalog) is a free creative writing class that goes beyond the plate to explore the richness of our stories, identities, and histories.

We’ll read and be inspired by literary luminaries like Cecilia Brainard, Rachel Cruz, Jill Damatac, Monica Macansantos, Bino A. Realuyo, Barbara Jane Reyes, Tony Robles and more—writers who aren’t just representing the Filipino experience but redefining it. Through stories, we’ll unpack the flavors of migration, memory, and belonging. Whether you’re writing about the first time you tasted balut, the quiet rituals of a family meal, or the way food bridges generations, this class will encourage you to sharpen your voice and expand your storytelling.

All writers are welcome!  Bring a recipe, a snack or whatever else brings you inspiration.

Participants will be invited to submit their stories to WeWrite!’s online zine, which will be featured on their website.

Tara, kain tayo!

Space is limited to 30 participants. Reserve your seat by registering here
