Collage Workshop with David Lampel
March 11 @ 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm
Free
About the Artist:
David Lampel is an African American journalist, teacher, musician, writer, artist, singer, actor, and businessman who first came to Las Vegas 25 years ago and watched the community evolve. He has traveled the world and speaks three languages. This would be his third show in the two years since he has started offering his art for sale online and in person in Las Vegas. A repeat veteran as both a musician and artist in the ‘Authors and Artist Fairs’ at the Clack County Library in 2023 and 2024.
About the Exhibit
In this exhibition, the artist reflects on Las Vegas’s unique cultural landscape, a city that paradoxically celebrates the destruction of its historical symbols and gathering places. The implosion and demolition of these structures evoke a complex blend of joy and nostalgia, marking a distinct separation from the past. The artist’s journey resembles cultural anthropology and archaeology, dedicating hours to excavating history and seeking echoes of the past that resonate in the present and future. Before engaging with various artistic mediums—such as brush, charcoal, clay, or creating dioramas and collages—the artist aims to transcend mere sentimentality. The proposed pieces invite viewers to appreciate the beauty in the elements that have shaped Las Vegas’s identity, highlighting the intricate tapestry of what contributes to the city’s essence today.
